Kuwaiti women win first parliamentary seats

The legislature has been men-only for almost half a century

KUWAIT CITY - Four Kuwaitis have become the first women elected to their nation's parliament, a resounding victory in a conservative Persian Gulf country where the legislature has been men-only for almost half a century.
Women gained the right to vote and run for office in 2005 but failed in two previous elections to win seats in the 50-member parliament. Official results from Saturday's vote were read out by judges on state-owned TV on Sunday.
Kuwait, one of the few democracies in the Gulf, has led the region in giving its people political rights. Some critics, however, say the country's political stability and economy have suffered due to the powerful parliament's frequent clashes with Cabinets that are still selected and led by the ruling family.

Fundamentalists losing ground

One of the women elected, Massouma al-Mubarak, was also the country's first female Cabinet minister. The other female winners were women's rights activist Rola Dashti, education professor Salwa al-Jassar and philosophy professor Aseel al-Awadhi.
The election results also showed fundamentalist Muslims losing ground. They won 16 seats on Saturday, down from the 24 seats they held in the previous house.
Kuwait has no officially recognized parties. Candidates either belong to political groups, run independently or represent their tribes.
Voters casting ballots in Saturday's polls said they were tired of years of clashes between lawmakers and Cabinet members. Those clashes have sparked political crises that led to three elections and five Cabinets in three years.
The political upheaval has virtually frozen development in the oil-rich nation at a time when it is grappling with the global financial crisis and falling oil revenues, which account for 90 percent of government income.

Save Lives "ASPIRIN"

SAVE LIVES...

It is important to always have ASPIRIN in the home!!!
Why have Aspirin by your bedside ?
ABOUT HEART ATTACKS There are other symptoms of an heart attack besides the pain on the left arm.
One must also be aware of an intense pain on the chin, as well as nausea and lots of sweating, however these symptoms may also occur less frequently.
NOTE : There may be no pain in the chest during an heart attack.
The majority of people (about 60%) who had an heart attack during their sleep, did not wake up. However, if it occurs, the chest pain may wake you up from your deep sleep.
If that happens, IMMEDIATELY DISSOLVE TWO ASPIRINS IN YOUR MOUTH and swallow them with a bit of water. Afterwards, phone a neighbour or a family member who lives very close by and state "HEART ATTACK!!!" and that you have taken 2 ASPIRINSTake a seat on a chair or sofa and wait for their arrival and ....

DO NOT LIE DOWN !!!

Porn Star Predicaments

Hope Miller, known in the adult entertainment industry as Brooke Skye, filed a lawsuit in October 2006 against shock jock Bubba "The Love Sponge" Clem and his producers at Sirius Satellite Radio, claiming Clem forced her to engage in a sexual act during his radio show. She said the shock jock threatened bodily harm if she didn't allow porn actress Melissa Midwest to have sex with her using a strap-on device during a June 12 appearance on the Tampa, Fla.-based radio show. Skye is asking for more than $15,000 in damages in the assault and battery lawsuit.

UUM Official Website Hacked again

I'm one of UUM student, I'd like to say that our university try hard to make a good image by providing prefect service to take "University Utara Malaysia" up to the best universities in Malaysia.

We all know the real competition between all universities in Malaysia, so UUM not far from this competition as well.

However, here two points i want mention for those people who hacked the official website twice as i notes it, what is the benefit you all get?

Is it revenge?

First time the hacker put a picture of Indonesian girl with her name and by pointing her course. So, I checked the name of the girl and was true she is exists and she's one of UUM student. i said what a shame!!!.
even if i was mad at girl for cheating me, i wont make her front of the muzzle, I'll settle the problem by different way.
What I'm trying to say here; i couldn't make conclusion for that behave.

Second time i don't know what is propose of doing such thing, anyway here the link of the page as i saw it http://big00man.is-the-boss.com/bER%20%20%20%20--==--%20%20%20%20Hacked%20By%20%20%20%20%20--==--%20%20%20%20GemBeLCy.htm

The Air I Breathe

The Air I Breath

Love

Pleasure

Sorrow

Fingers

Happiness

For sure I like this movie so much, but I don't understand why some people don't agree with the idea of this movie, they work hard to show us how people can express their Happiness, Love, Pleasure, Sorrow.
My friends say we would give 9/10 which I feel it's deserve, but some of them come with idea that is not that good movie because they mixed up Happiness and Pleasure. And are completely confused on the Love.
IMDb give the movie 7.2/10.

U.S. flu cases jump as labs catch up

The tally of confirmed swine flu cases in the United States jumped Sunday to 244 in 34 states, but officials said that's largely from catching up on a backlog of lab tests rather than a sudden spurt in new infections.

The new number, up from 160 on Saturday, reflects streamlining in federal procedures and the results of tests by states, which have only recently begun confirming cases, said Dr. Anne Schuchat of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention in Atlanta.

Because states are now contributing their results, and because there are many cases to analyze, "I expect the numbers to jump quite a bit in the next couple days," she told reporters Sunday.
Beyond eating into the backlog, the new number also reflects that "we do think this virus is fairly widespread," she said. CDC's count of states with confirmed cases reached 30 on Sunday.

"Virtually all of the United States probably has this virus circulating now. That doesn't mean that everybody's infected, but within the communities, the virus has arrived."

Later Sunday, a few more states reported their first confirmed infections, including North Carolina with one case.

Great Effort done by young Peoples to bring Peace to the World.. The Service Project was wonderful.. Good Job!!! Keep up the hard work.. Congratulations CAP Malasyia..

A good cause

ABOUT 300 students from 15 universities and colleges around the nation participated in a community project at the first Malaysia College and University Student Assembly (Cusa), organised by the Collegiate Ambassadors for Peace Network, a youth leadership initiative of Universal Peace Federation Malaysia.

The students took part in various volunteer activities at four locations in the Klang Valley — Rumah Ozanam, the Selangor Children’s Spastic Association, Kampung Kerinchi, and the Old Town market in Petaling Jaya.

They carried out gotong-royong projects, including cleaning drains and walls, and raising funds to buy food for the less fortunate.

Universiti Utara Malaysia student Anditawati Diah Paramita was happy as the effort was for a good cause.

“I learnt to keep the environment clean and care for those in need,” said Universiti Tunku Abdul Rahman student Boo Chui Huang, adding that he found the project meaningful.

Meanwhile, Universiti Malaya’s Kahirul Nizam said: “I learnt to be a more responsible and caring person. I’m proud to be part of the team, and to join with friends from other universities in this project.”

The project was launched by Deputy Higher Education Minister Datuk Idris Haron who commended the students on their leadership and initiative.

“It is through service like this that the best leadership traits are developed,” said Idris.

Cusa aims to provide a platform for varsity students to carry out community projects in the spirit of volunteerism. The participating universities included Universiti Sains Malaysia, Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia, Universiti Teknologi Mara, Tunku Abdul Rahman College and Lincoln College.

The volunteers also heard from veteran volunteers including Yayasan Salam Malaysia project executive Nal Azri Nawawi, and Universal Peace Federation Malaysia education director James Poon Hong Wai.

The event is organised in conjunction with the Global Peace Festival 2008 in Malaysia.
